Re-establishment of Character Education in Korean: Relationship with Moral Education and Civic Education

Purpose : This study investigates the foundation for re-establishing the concept of character education and proposes a course of action for school character education. Method : The study was conducted using the literature analysis method. The analysis was conducted on Korean academic databases, report data from Korean research institutes, and data from the Korea Legal Information Center. Results : To redefine the concept of character education, the academic and social context of character education's background was confirmed, and research on character education in Korea was examined. The relationship between moral education and character education, civic education, and character education was summarized based on the analysis contents. Conclusion : School character education should have a direction for building a culture of character education. In order to solve the social problems of schools, it is necessary to cope with and prevent individual problems, but above all, it is necessary to change the school culture so that problems do not occur.
