흔히 요즘 시대를 디지털 시대라 한다. 그만큼 디지털은 일상화되어서 우리가 인식하지 못할 정도로 보편화되었다. 특히, 인공신경망기계번역(NMT)과 챗GPT의 출현은 우리의 삶을 바꿀 수 있는 계기가 될지도 모른다. 즉, 디지털은 그동안의 우리 삶에 새로운 패러다임의 변화를 일으킬 원인이 되어가고 있다. 이에 따라 통·번역 교육 시장에서도 이러한 변화에 민감하지 않을 수가 없는데, 필자는 한편으로는 적극적으로 이러한 변화를 받아들여야 하지만, 한편으로는 어떻게 받아들여야 하는지 그 방법 면에서 수많은 고민을 해야 한다고 주장한다. 이러한 충분한 시간 및 방법에 대한 고민은 더 나은 통·번역 교육의 역사가 이어지는 데 발판이 될 것이다.
In the current digital age, we have seamlessly integrated technology into our lives to the point where its ubiquity often goes unnoticed. Artificial neural network machine translation (NMT) and ChatGPT have emerged as transformative technologies that hold the potential to usher in a "new paradigm shift" in our daily existence. Consequently, the fields of translation and translation education cannot remain impervious to these changes. This paper contends that we must actively embrace these changes while also addressing a range of associated concerns. An exploration of these concerns, along with careful consideration of the time and methods required for their adoption, will pave the way for an enhanced history of interpretation and translation education.
