중학생의 기후위기 피해경험에 관한 인식과 기후위기에 관한 인식이 기후행동의 의지에 미치는 영향 - 아동의 권리에 대한 인식의 매개효과

Effects of Middle School Students’ Climate Change Impact Experiences and Awareness on Climate Action Intentions: The Mediating Role of Children’s Rights Awareness

이 연구에서는 미래세대인 아동⋅청소년의 기후행동 의지에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하고 기후위기 피해경험과 인식, 기후행동 의지 등의 관계를 모형화하며, 청소년의 권리에 대한 인식이 미치는 매개효과를 검증하고자 하였다. 특히 기후위기 및 아동 권리에 대한 인식이 가능하고, 기후행동에 대한 방향을 탐색할 수 있는 중학생들의 기후행동 의지에 미치는 다양한 요인들을 살펴보았다. 전국 228명 중학생을 대상으로 설문을 실시한 결과, 응답자는 어른세대에 비해 아동⋅청소년이 기후위기에 영향을 더 많이 받을 것으로 예상하고 있었으며, 방임이나 학대, 전염병에의 노출, 교육 및 문화생활의 피해와 같은 아동 권리에의 피해는 적다고 인식하고 있었다. 탐색적 요인 분석을 실시한 결과 크게 5개의 요인으로 묶을 수 있었고, 이는 전반적인 인식, 생존과 관련된 권리의 피해, 발달과 관련된 권리의 피해, 권리에 대한 인식, 기후행동 의지로 명명하였다. ‘생존과 관련한 피해’가 ‘전반적인 인식’에 미치는 영향 및 ‘발달과 관련한 권리의 피해’가 ‘전반적인 인식’에 미치는 영향, ‘전반적인 인식’이 ‘기후행동 의지’에 미치는 영향은 모두 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 연구모형에서 ‘권리에 대한 인식’이 매개하는 효과는 유의미하다고 보기 어렵다. 기후위기에 대한 ‘전반적인 인식’이 높은 학생은 ‘기후행동 의지’ 및 ‘권리에 대한 인식’이 높게 나타나지만, ‘권리에 대한 인식’이 ‘기후행동 의지’로 이어지지는 않는다. 이의 구체적인 원인을 밝혀내기 위한 후속 연구가 필요할 것으로 보인다.

The present study analyzed the factors influencing the intention of future generations, specifically children and adolescents, to take action against climate change. We modeled the relationship between experiences and perceptions of the climate crisis and the intention of climate action and examined the mediating effect of awareness of adolescent rights. We focus on the various factors that affect the intentions of middle school students to act on climate change because they can understand the climate crisis and children’s rights and explore the directions of climate action. From a survey conducted with 228 middle school students nationwide, respondents believed that children and adolescents would be more affected by the climate crisis compared to the adult generation. They perceived that violations of children’s rights, such as neglect, abuse, exposure to infectious diseases, and damage to education and cultural life, were low. An exploratory factor analysis identified five main factors: general perception, damages related to survival rights, damages related to development rights, awareness of rights, and climate action intention. The impact of damages related to survival on general perception, the impact of damages related to development rights on general perception, and the influence of general perception on climate action intention were all found to be significant. However, in the research model, the mediating effect of awareness of rights was not considered significant. Although students with a high general perception of the climate crisis also showed high climate action intention and awareness of rights, this awareness did not directly translate to climate action intention. Further research is required to determine the specific reasons behind this.
