인류세에서의 장소성과 생태교육 : 제천간디학교를 중심으로

Place and ecological education in the Anthropocene era: Focusing on Jecheon Gandhi School

1997년 개교한 제천간디학교는 중·고 통합교육과정을 갖춘 국내 유일의 대안학교이다. 이 학교는 행복하고 성숙한 시민으로 성장한다는 민주학교의 이념 아래 생태학을 지향하는 교육을 제공해 왔다. 생태 화장실, 농업, 사랑과 자발성을 바탕으로 한 커리큘럼 운영, 적극적인 사회참여 등은 학생의 의지를 최우선으로 하여 지역사회와 상생하는 미래학교의 모델을 보여준다. 우리는 티머시 모턴의 잠재력을 품은 장소 개념을 바탕으로 제천간디학교를 문화지리학적 측면과 미학적 측면에서 이해할 수 있다. 이 학교는 문명에 반하는 마을공동체를 만드는 것을 목표로 하며, 학교 안팎의 교육활동은 생태예술 이념과 공명한다. 우리는 기후위기와 지방소멸을 극복하기 위해 제천간디학교를 미래의 생태주의적 학교 모델로 삼을 수 있다.

Jecheon Gandhi School, which opened in 1997, is the only alternative school in Korea with an integrated middle and high-school curriculum. This school has been providing ecological education under the democratic school philosophy of growing into happy and mature citizens. Ecological toilets, farming, operating a curriculum based on love and spontaneity, and active social participation form a model of a future school that coexists with the local community by prioritizing the will of students. Based on Timothy Morton's concept of a place with potential, we can understand the Jecheon Gandhi School from cultural geography and aesthetic aspects. We aimed to create a village community that goes against civilization, and educational activities both inside and outside the school that resonated with the ideology of ecological art. The Jecheon Gandhi School can beused as an excellent school model for the future to overcome climate crises and regional extinction.
