유아 중심 미술 활동 사례 연구: 담화분석적 접근

Case Study of Child-centered Art activity in a Preschool Classroom: Examining through Discourse Analysis

본 연구의 목적은 한 유치원 교실에서의 유아 중심적 미술 활동 사례를 깊게 탐색하여 교육적 시사점을 제공하는 데 있다. 미국 중부의 B 유치원 4-5세 혼합반 유아들과 교사들의 교실 속 상호작용을 관찰하였고, 수집된 관찰자료는 Spradley(1980)가 제시한 질적 연구 분석 절차에 따라 진행하였다. 연구의 목적을 위해 사례 연구(case study)와 미시수준의 담화분석법(Micro-level discourse analysis)을 사용하여, 미술 활동과 교실 속 이야기 나누기 상호작용을 심층적으로 연구하였다. 연구 결과, 유아중심적 미술 활동은 유아들의 관심과 흥미에서부터 출발하는 발현적 교육과정의 특성을 나타내었다. 둘째, 본 연구 참여대상 유치원의 교실에서의 유아중심적 미술 활동은 유아의 흥미를 따라 탐색을 하되, 유아들로 하여금 해당 주제에 대해 능동적으로 질문하고, 생각하고, 상호작용 할 수 있는 기회들이 교실 속에서 이야기 나누기 시간을 통해 제공되었다. 셋째, 연구 참여대상 유치원의 교실에서의 본 미술 활동 사례에서는 유아교육기관과 지역사회와의 협력 및 참여가 구체적으로 관찰 및 분석되었다. 이는 2019 개정누리과정에서 강조하고 있는, 유아중심 교육과정의 유아와 기관이 속한 지역사회와의 함께 해나가는 교육과정의 의미있는 사례가 될 수 있다.

The purpose of this study was to explore the child-centered art activity in a preschool classroom. The researcher collected data through observations of the activity interactions among the children and teachers of one preschool classroom with ages 4 and 5 in a Midwestern city in the U.S. The data were qualitatively analyzed based on Spradely(1980)’s procedures. A case study and micro-level discourse analysis was conducted to achieve the purpose of this study in regard to examine interaction during the art-related activities. In research findings, firstly, the child-centered art activities examined this classroom had shared the elements of emergent curriculum, which supported the children’s interests to develop and proceed the activities. Secondly, the child-centered art activities in this classroom provided the children an opportunity to interact with one another within group context. The children actively engaged in thinking and asking questions to solve their curiosity in certain topics. Thirdly, this study had shown an active use of local community as a great resources in developing and proceeding the classroom art activities, which emphasized in 2019 Nuri Curriculum in a way of supporting child-centered approach, thus possible to provide a meaningful case example.
