디지털 시대 박물관의 전시연출과 관람양상 연구 -국립중앙박물관 <사유의 방>을 중심으로-

A Study on the Exhibition Directing and Viewing Pattern in the Digital Age Museum -Focusing on <A Room of Quiet Contemplation> of the National Museum of Korea-

21세기의 인류는 ‘제4차 산업혁명(제2차 정보혁명)’의 시대적 변혁에 놓여 있다. ‘제2차 정보혁명’은 20세기 후반의 ‘제1차 정보혁명’에 지능정보기술, 즉 초연결(hyperconnectivity)⋅초지능(superintelligence)이 적용되며 진화하는 중이다. 정보산업화의 기술혁명은 인간의식의 변화와 이에 따른 사회문화의 변혁을 초래하며 가속화⋅전면화하고 있는 것이다. 더욱이 AI혁명은 20세기형 물질적⋅정신적 인프라를 완전히 뒤바꾸고 있다. 이와 관련한 인간, (대상에 대한) 지식, 시각적 이미지 등은 전통적으로 근대적 박물관과 밀접한 항목들이다. 따라서 디지털 시대 박물관의 전시연출과 관람양상은 단지 발전된 디지털 기술의 적용이란 단편적 측면이 아닌, ‘인간-지식-객체(object)-공간’의 복합적 관계에서 이해할 필요가 있다. 이에 본고는 국립⋅역사박물관의 수장(首長)이라 할 수 있는 국립중앙박물관을 대상으로, 근래 “초현실적 새로운 전시 공간”, “획기적 기획력과 창의적 디자인”으로 자평하고, 많은 관람객을 흡인하고 있는 <사유의 방>의 전시연출과 전시 관람양상을 통해, 디지털 시대 박물관의 위상과 의미를 탐색해 보고자 한다.

Humanity in the 21st century is in the midst of a transformation of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution (Second Information Revolution)’. The ‘Second Information Revolution’ is evolving by applying intelligent information technology, that is, hyperconnectivity and superintelligence, to the ‘First Information Revolution’ of the late 20th century. The technological revolution of information industrialization is accelerating and sweeping, bringing about changes in human consciousness and consequent social and cultural transformations. Moreover, the AI revolution is completely changing the material and mental infrastructure of the 20th century. In this regard, humans, knowledge (about objects), visual images, etc. are traditionally items closely related to modern museums. Therefore, the exhibition presentation and viewing patterns of museums in the digital era need to be understood from the complex relationship of ‘human-knowledge- object-space’ rather than just the application of advanced digital technology. Accordingly, this paper focuses on the National Museum of Korea, which can be said to be the head of national and historical museums, and has recently evaluated itself as a “surrealistic new exhibition space” and “groundbreaking planning ability and creative design,” and is attracting many visitors with <A Room of Quiet Contemplation>. Through the exhibition direction and exhibition viewing patterns of <A Room of Quiet Contemplation>, I would like to explore the status and meaning of the digital age museum.
