본 연구는 북미와 호주 등 영어권 국가에서 사용되고 있는 음악이론 소프트웨어 ‘뮤지션’(Musition)을 활용한 화성학 모의 수업 사례를 제시하며, 첨단 테크놀로지의 제4차 산업혁명 시대에 어디까지 해외 음악이론 교육이 진화해 왔는지 살펴보고 음악대학 화성학 수업에서의 활용 가능성을 탐구하는 것에 그 목적이 있다. ‘뮤지션’은 호주의 라이징 소프트웨어(Rising Software)가 개발한 프로그램으로, 기초 음악이론에서부터 반음계적 화음 분석, 4성부 진행 등 대학 음악이론 교육과정에 적용 가능한 실러버스와 각 주제에 해당하는 콘텐츠, 과제, 시험 등을 다양하게 제공하고 있다. 본 연구는 ‘뮤지션’을 사용하며 몇 가지 주된 장점을 발견할 수 있었다. 첫째, 교수자는 뮤지션에서 제공되는 강의 계획을 그대로 사용하거나, 혹은 자신의 강의 내용에 맞춰 자유롭게 수업을 계획할 수 있다. 둘째, 프로그램에 탑재되어 있는 많은 연습문제를 활용하여 과제와 시험을 구성할 수 있다. 셋째, 과제와 시험에 대한 채점과 학생 평가 보고서가 자동적으로 생성되며, 정답의 변수가 많은 4성부 문제에서도 정확한 채점과 자세한 피드백을 제공한다. 교수자의 수업 계획, 채점, 학생 관리에 대한 부담을 덜어주고 학생들의 자기주도학습을 독려할 수 있는 해외 음악이론 소프트웨어의 발전이 국내 음악이론 교육에도 활용될 수 있기를 기대해본다.
This paper aims to present a case study on the utilization of the music theory software 'Musition' in harmony courses. Thus, this paper first examines the evolution of music theory education abroad, exploring specific applications in university-level harmony courses. 'Musition,' developed by the Australian company Rising Software, is a music theory software that spans fundamental music theory to advanced harmonies and four-part writings, providing a tremendous number of syllabi, contents, assignments, and exams, which are applicable to university music theory curricula. Through the use of 'Musition,' several key advantages have been identified. Instructors can plan their classes freely according to the course content and structure assignments and exams using a substantial number of examples and contents. Furthermore, automatic generation of grading and student evaluation reports are available, even in complex four-part writings. Considering the key features of Musition, this papers argues that the development of music theory software not only eases the burden on instructors in lesson planning, grading, and student management but also encourages students' self-directed learning. I hope such music theory software will be applicable to music theory education in Korea.
