The effects of par ents' positive parenting attitude on children's happiness: Mediating effects of self-esteem and gr it

This study was conducted with the purpose of verifying the mediating effect of children's self-esteem and grit in the effect of parents' positive parenting attitude on children's happiness. For this purpose, 2,607 4th grade children from the first year (2018) of the Korean Child Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) were selected. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and PROCESS Macro version 4.2. The summary of the research results is as follows. First, parents' positive parenting attitude directly affected children's happiness. Second, parents' positive parenting attitude indirectly affected children's happiness by mediating children's self-esteem, and parents' positive parenting attitudes indirectly affected children's happiness by mediating children's grit. Third, the positive parenting attitude of the parents influenced the child's happiness by mediating the child's self-esteem and grit sequentially. For the happiness of children, social and educational support is needed to keep personal factors such as children's self-esteem and grit positive as well as home environment factors such as parenting attitudes.
