댄스스포츠 선수들의 나르시시즘 성향과 형성과정에 관한 연구

A Study on the Narcissism Tendencies and Formation Process of Dance Sports Athletes

본 연구는 댄스스포츠 선수들에게서 나타나는 나르시시즘 성향과 형성과정을 탐색하는데 목적이 있다. 댄스스포츠 선수로 15년 이상의 선수활동을 하며 국가대표 상비군 이상의 경력을 가지고 있는 4명을 연구대상으로 하였으며, 23년 3월부터 10월까지 2차례를 걸쳐 심층면담 인터뷰를 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 댄스스포츠 선수들에게 나타나는 나르시시즘 성향과 형성과정에 대한 의미와 개념들을 분류하여 결과를 도출하였다. 첫째, 댄스스포츠 선수들은 댄서인으로서의 삶과 표현력은 뛰어난 예술적 실력을 보이고 다양한 경험을 통해 자신감형성과 화려한 외모의 꾸밈이 일상화된다. 둘째, 자기민감성의 특성을 가진 댄스스포츠 선수들은 자신을 독립적이고 객관적으로 바라보며 전문성을 더욱 향상시킨다. 셋째, 팀 종목으로 속해 있는 댄스스포츠는 다양한 상황에서 관계 형성이 이루어지며, 상위랭킹의 선수들은 이를 전략적으로 이용한다. 이러한 결과는 댄스스포츠 선수들의 나르시시즘 성향과 다양한 관계에 대해 탐색하고, 그들의 심리적 특성을 이해하는데 기여한다. 더 나아가 이러한 특성을 고려하여 향후 선수들에게 훈련 및 지원프로그램을 개발하는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

The purpose of this study was to explore the development of narcissism in dance sports elite athletes. This study collected data through two in-depth interviews from March to October 2023 on four elite dance sport athletes with more than 15 years of experience in the national team. The meanings and concepts of narcissistic tendencies and formation processes in dance sport athletes were categorized, and the following results were obtained. First, elite dance athletes are highly artistic and expressive, and their experience normalizes self-confidence and extravagance. These characteristics are the hallmarks of dance sports and demand excellence in performance and stage presence. Dance athletes exposed to this environment from an early age can develop narcissistic self-aggrandizement. Second, dance sports are different from other sports because many disciplines compete in the same field. As a result, top dance athletes create different cultures, judge themselves objectively, and look at themselves dispassionately. This manifests in a narcissistic self-awareness that allows them to understand and evaluate themselves in different contexts, compensate for their shortcomings, and maximize their strengths. In other words, dance athletes with self-sensitivity can look at themselves independently and objectively, further improving their professionalism.Third, as a team sport, dance sports involve forming relationships in various contexts, and elite athletes use them strategically. Narcissism is considered an aspect of egocentrism, and athletes tend to be assertive about interpersonal relationships in various situations, acting selfishly to achieve their goals and forming or ignoring relationships. These findings contribute to our understanding of the psychological characteristics of elite dance athletes by exploring their narcissistic tendencies and various relationships. Furthermore, considering these characteristics, it is expected to help develop training and support programs for elite athletes.
