Multiple Mediating Effects of Autonomy, Competence and Relatedness on the Relation between Parents’ Autonomy Support and Adolescents’ Career Maturity

본 연구는 청소년이 인지하는 부모의 자율성 지지와 진로성숙도의 관계에서 기본심리욕구의 하위요인인 자율성, 유능성, 관계성이 각각 동시에 매개역할을 하는지에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 서울과 수도권에 소재한 7개 중학교에 다니는 청소년 1,020명의 설문지를 최종 분석에 사용하였으며 구조방정식 모형(Structural Equation Modeling : SEM)을 통해 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 청소년의 기본심리욕구인 자율성, 유능성, 관계성 모두는 부모의 자율성 지지와 청소년의 진로성숙도의 관계를 정적(+)으로 매개하는 효과가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 청소년의 자율성, 유능성, 관계성의 충족 정도는 청소년의 진로성숙도를 높이는데 중요한 요인이 됨을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 분석결과를 토대로 본 연구는 청소년의 중요한 발달 과제 중의 하나인 진로성숙도 향상을 위해 가정에서 부모가 어떤 양육방식을 실천하는 것이 바람직한지를 제시하고자 하였으며 청소년의 기본심리욕구인 자율성, 유능성, 관계성의 충족을 위한 부모의 양육 및 실천 방안을 제안하였다.

This study aimed at identifying the multiple mediating effects of autonomy, competence and relatedness in the relationship between parental autonomy support and career maturity of adolescents. For this, We used data were collected from 1,020 students for 7 middle schools in Seoul and the Gyeonggi areas. We were analyzed by using structural equation models(SEM). As a result of the analysis, individual mediating effect of autonomy, competence and relatedness were shown to be statistically significant in the impact of parent’s autonomy on adolescent’s career maturity. It became evident that the fulfillment of autonomy, competence, and relatedness in adolescents is a significant factor in increasing their career maturity. Based on these results, these authors suggested that desirable parenting styles in the family to enhance adolescents’ career maturity, which is one of the important developmental tasks. Also, we discussed that intervention to improve career maturity through satisfaction the basic psychological needs of adolescents.
