추사 김정희의 ‘소식蘇軾 동일시’ 양상 고찰 ―제주 유배 시기를 중심으로

An Examination of Chusa Kim Jeong-Hee's Identification with Su Shi (蘇軾) - Focused on the Period of His Exile in Jeju

This paper focuses on the commonalities in the lives of Su Shi and Chusa Kim Jeong-hee, who both intensely explored their scholarly and artistic paths through adversity and frustration, becoming exemplars for later generations of scholars. Kim Jeong-hee's tendency to identify himself with Su Shi becomes particularly evident in the poems and writings from his period of exile in Jeju Island, a practice closely related to his recognition as the 'Dongpo of Korea.' This study analyzes why Kim persistently identified himself with Su Shi and how he set Su Shi as his scholarly path. It also sheds light on Kim’s self-perception and the formation of his idealized image through letters he sent, examining how he coped with his marginalization following the Yunsangdo incident. Through this analysis, the paper aims to reveal the significance of Kim Jeong-hee's identification with Su Shi as a process of self-healing and how Su Shi served as an ideal ego for him.

추사 김정희의 인생 궤적은 소식과 상당히 유사하다. 소식이 필화로 오대시안을 쓰고 황주로 유배된 뒤, 혜주와 담주로 2차 유배되는 경험을 한 것처럼, 김정희도 윤상도 옥사로 인해 제주도로 1차 유배를 당한 후 북청으로 2차 유배를 경험한다. 이 과정에서 김정희는 “혜주의 밥을 먹는다”, “원우 죄인의 신세가 되어” 등의 표현을 통해 자신을 소식과 동일시하며, 소식의 초상을 호신부로 여기고 이상적 자아와 의존적 관계를 형성한다. 또한 김정희는 ‘해동의 동파’로 인정받음으로써 소식과 동일시하는 과정에서 타인의 시선을 의식했고, 이를 통해 목표를 달성했다는 증거가 된다. 김정희의 소식에 대한 동일시는 그의 편지에서도 드러난다. 편지는 자신의 상황과 감정을 타인에게 전달하는 수단으로, 김정희에게 소식은 이상적 자아로서 자기 만족을 충족시켰다고 볼 수 있다. 이에 대한 연유를 탐구하면, 김정희는 윤상도 옥사 이후 제주도로 유배되어 변방의 삶을 감내하기 어려웠을 것이다. 그는 소식과의 동일시를 통해 내면적 갈등을 수용하고 치유하는 방식을 택했다. 이를 통해 볼 때, 김정희의 소식과의 동일시는 자기 치유의 과정이며, 그에게 소식은 이상적인 자아상으로 여겨질 수 있다.
