Among the flow of Chinese thought, the Xuanxue(玄學) is a very important turning point. Intellectuals during the Wei and Jin Dynasties broke away from the tradition of Confucianism in the Yang and Han Dynasties and developed a new discourse on life and the universe based on Lu, Zhang, and the Book of Changes. While one academic discipline focused on the study of complicated Confucian classics on the foundation of Confucianism, Xuanxue (玄學) develops speculative philosophy on the foundation of Taoism. At that time, intellectuals broke away from the tradition of classical classical studies of the Han Dynasty and newly interpreted the Three Wise Men, focusing on the organic relationship and communication between humans and nature, and created their own original metaphysics based on this. The intellectuals' critical awareness was to fuse the order of the universe and the order of humans to build an integrated world view and view of civilization suitable for a new era. To this end, they reinterpreted Confucianism's strong ethics, such as the Three Rivers and Five Rings, and tried to rediscover Taoist metaphysics. The purpose of this paper is to reconstruct the philosophical system of Wang Pil, who founded the Xuanxue school, focusing on core categories and further observe the conflict and fusion of Confucian and Taoist ideas. This will expand the horizon of existing research on Wang Pil and provide an opportunity to reevaluate his philosophy from an intellectual history perspective.
