유아교육기관 원장의 STEAM 교육에 대한 인식 및 요구

Perception and demands of early childhood education directors on STEAM Education

본 연구는 유아교육기관 원장을 대상으로 STEAM 교육에 대한 인식과 요구를 알아보고 자 하였다. 이를 위하여 서울, 경기, 인천 지역의 유아교육기관 원장 204명을 대상으로 설 문조사를 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대다수의 유아교육기관 원장은 STEAM 교육에 대한 정보를 접한 경험이 있었으나 실제 운영 경험은 절반도 되지 않았다. 또한 유아교육기관 원장들은 STEAM 교육에 대해 전반적으로 이해하고, 유아를 대상으로 STEAM 교육이 필요하다고 생각하고 있었으며, 효과 또한 높게 평가하고 있었다. 둘째, 유 아교육기관 원장은 STEAM 교육내용으로는 인성교육과 실생활과의 연계를 중시하며, 교육 환경 측면에서는 활동시간의 융통성을 확보하는 것을 요구하였다. 또한 현장 지원을 위해 서는 유아교육기관 원장의 의지가 중요하며, 교사의 전문성 및 참여도 향상을 위한 교사 간 교류의 장을 마련할 것을 요구하였다. 이상의 결과들은 유아 STEAM 교육 현장 적용을 활 성화하기 위해서 유아교육기관 원장의 지속적인 관심과 지원이 필요함을 시사한다.

This study aims to investigate the awareness and demands of early childhood education directors regarding STEAM education. To achieve this, a survey was conducted targeting 204 directors of early childhood education institutions in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Incheon. The results are as follows. Firstly, a majority of early childhood education directors had encountered information about STEAM education, but actual operational experience was found to be lacking for nearly half of them. Despite this, the directors generally demonstrated a comprehensive understanding, perceived the necessity of STEAM education, and highly evaluated its effectiveness. Secondly, directors emphasized the importance of integrating character education and real-life connections in the content of STEAM education, suggesting flexible activity schedules to accommodate these aspects. It is necessary to increase the willingness of directors to apply STEAM education in the field and to facilitate exchange among teachers to enhance their expertise and participation. These findings highlight the necessity of sustained interest and support from directors to activate the implementation of STEAM education in early childhood settings.
