Purpose: This study attempted to identify the types of subjectivity regarding cultural empathy in nursing students by ap-plying the Q method, which is useful for typifying human subjectivity. Methods: Twenty-eight statements were generated as the final Q sample, and 32 nursing students were selected as the P sample. Q sorting yielded a systematic forced distribution of 28 Q samples ordered on a scale of 1-7. The collected data were analyzed using the PC-QUANL pro-gram by principle component analysis. Results: Factor analyses revealed three types of subjectivity that together ac-counted for 64.59% of the variance: Type 1 is “Receptive empathic type (53.48%)”, Type 2 is “Selective empathic type(6.31%)”, and Type 3 is “Respectful empathic type(4.79%)”. Conclusion: As nursing students are prospective nurses, they will be caring for patients with cultural diversity in the future, so it will be necessary to understand and empathize with the patient's cultural background. Developing cultural empathy among nursing students, will require developing and applying an effective intervention program that reflects the characteristics of each type.
