Purpose: This study examined the differences in the average energy intake between weekdays and weekends according to the marital status and gender of adults. Methods: Pooled data from the 2010–2017 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) and linear regression models were used to estimate how much average energy intake differs according to weekday/weekend, marital status, and gender of adults. Results: For married and unmarried adults, the average energy intake on weekends was higher than on weekdays. Specifically, while the average energy intake on weekdays was higher than on weekends for married males, for unmarried males, the average energy intake on week-ends was higher than on weekdays. Although the average energy intake during weekdays for married males was higher than that for unmarried males, the average energy intake during the weekend for unmarried males was higher than that for married males. For married and unmarried females, the average energy intake on weekends was higher than on weekdays. For married females, average energy intake on weekends and weekdays was higher than that for unmarried females. Conclusion: The differences in the average energy intake according to weekend/weekday, marital status, and gender were significant. Further efforts will be needed for nutritional well-being and balanced diets on weekdays and weekends, considering gender and marital status.
