Purpose: This qualitative case analysis study examined the academic adjustment experiences of North Korean defector mother–daughter nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from April 3 to July 14, 2023. Two mother–daughter pairs of North Korean defector nursing students participated in the study. The subjects were recruited by snowball sam-pling, and those who provided written consent were interviewed. Data analysis was conducted using the case analysis method. Results: Seven themes and 18 sub-themes emerged from this study. The seven themes are as follows: ‘Seize the opportunity when it comes,’ ‘Number of cases of exposing the North Korean defectors,’ ‘Friendship where warmth and discrimination coexist,’ ‘Relationship between mother and daughter as nursing students,’ ‘Difficulties encountered in the course of study,’ ‘The process of defecting from North Korea, which serves as a reference point for every difficult,’ ‘The joy of studying.’ Conclusion: This study highlights the significance of identifying a unique case of North Korean mother–daughter nursing students and exploring their experiences. It provides a foundation for understanding their experiences and developing support policies for their settlement and professional life in South Korea.
