The Effect of Satisfaction with the Major and Resilience on the Professional Self-Concept of Nursing Students

Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the impact of nursing college students' satisfaction with their major and resilience on their professional self-concept. Methods: A survey was conducted on 176 nursing students in K City. The data was analyzed using t-tests, ANOVA, the Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation, and hierarchical regression. Results: The student’s satisfaction with their major and resilience showed a positive correlation with professional self-concept (r=.65, p<.001, r=.68, p<.001). Satisfaction with the major (β=.39, p<.001) and resilience (β=.49, p<.001) were found to be the factors affecting the professional self-concept of nursing college students. The explanatory power of these factors was 59.7%. Conclusion: To enhance the professional self-concept of nursing college students, the development of adaptation programs for majors that foster satisfaction and resilience is recommended. Also, along with further strengthen-ing of the communication curriculum is necessary.
