소규모학교 교육과정 운영 방안: 학교를 통한 사회적 가치의 실현

A study on small school curriculum plan in rural area: Realization of social value through school

본 연구는 소규모학교가 학교 사회화를 교육 목적의 한 축으로 달성하기 위해 어떠한 방식으로 학교 교육과정을 운영해야 하는가에 관한 질문을 담고 있다. 그에 따라 질적 사례연구 방법에 기대어 해당 물음에 답하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 강원도 초등학교 5개교, 중학교 3개교, 초·중통합운영학교 1개교 등을 연구 대상으로 삼아, 교육과정 문서 자료 검토, 학교 방문 및 관찰, 교직원 면담 등의 방법을 통해 자료를 수집하고 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 학교급별 사례 분석에서는 교육적 3요소의 초점을 각각 교사, 학생, 교육내용 등으로 옮겨가면서 초등학교(교사의 학급-학생 인식 맥락), 중학교(친밀한 학생 관계를 통해 생성되는 학교문화), 초·중통합운영학교(공동 활동 프로그램 계획 및 실천) 간 교육과정 운영 방향이 미세하게 변화함을 드러내었다. 그리고 지역분포별 사례 분석에서는 사회적 구조를 각각 가정, 학교, 지역사회까지 확장하면서 도심형 학교(교육적 돌봄 방안 마련,) 근교형 학교(자율적인 교원 및 학생 구성), 원교형 학교(지역 생태계 네트워크 구축) 간 교육과정 운영의 초점이 달라질 수 있음을 도출하였다. 이러한 연구 결과로 볼 때, 소규모학교가 학교 내외의 학생과 교원을 둘러싼 구조적 관계를 적절하게 고려한 교육과정 운영 방안을 마련한다면, 학생의 학교 사회화라는 교육적 기능을 충실히 수행할 수 있을 것이다.

This study contains an understanding of how small schools should implement the school curriculum in order to achieve school socialization as one of the educational goals. Accordingly, it attempted to answer the question by relying on a qualitative case study method. For this purpose, five elementary schools, three middle schools, and one integrated school in Gangwon-do were used as research subjects. Data were collected and analyzed through methods such as review of curriculum documents, school visits and observations, and teacher interviews. The research results are as follows. As a result of analyzing cases by school level, the focus of the three educational elements respectively shifted to teachers, students, and educational content. The direction of curriculum implementation changed in accordance with the context of the teacher's class-student perception in elementary schools, the school culture created through close student relationships in middle schools, and the planning and practice of joint activity programs in integrated elementary and middle schools. And as a result of analyzing cases by regional distribution, considering that the social structure extends to the home, school, and community, the focus of curriculum implementation varies preparing educational care plan, having autonomous teacher and student composition, building a local ecosystem network depending on the distance from the city center. Based on these research results, small schools will be able to faithfully perform the educational function of students' school socialization by establishing a curriculum implementation plan that appropriately considers the structural relationships surrounding students and teachers inside and outside the school.
