집안 출토 고구려 기와 문자 검토

A review of the letters of Goguryeo roof tiles excavated in Jian

최근 다른 연구자에 의해 수행된 집안 지역 고구려 와당 명문 판독 연구를 반영하여 필자의 과거 연구에 대한 수정 보완 작업을 하였다. 다만 최근 연구에서의 지적과 달리 禹山下 3319호에서 출토된 ‘十谷民造’ 와당은 梨樹園子南 유적에서 출토된 와당과 동일한 와당이 분명하다고 생각되며, ‘千谷’이 아니라 ‘十谷’으로 판독하는 게 옳다. ‘10곡’은 와당을 만들어 공급한 10개의 고을을 의미한다. 와당과 기와 중에는 물건의 제작을 지시하거나 의뢰한 주체의 이름이 새겨지는 경우가 일반적이다. 서대묘에서 출토된 戊子年 와당과 己丑年 와당, 그리고 千秋塚에서 출토된 ‘趙將軍’명기와와 ‘胡將軍’명 기와가 여기에 해당한다. 고구려는 왕실의 권위를 과시하고 재정적 부담을 분산하기 위하여 왕릉의 조영과 수리에 지방 세력을 동원하고 역할을 분배하였다고 여겨진다. 일반 기와에 남겨진 명문은 와당 명문에 비해 서체가 자유분방하고, 정제되어 있지 않은 경우가 많다. 이는 기와 명문의 다수가 와당과 달리 남들에게 보여 주기 위한 명문이 아니라 제작자들의 작업을 위한 기능적인 목적에서 새겨진 것이기 때문이다. 기와에 새겨진 글자들은 수준의 편차가 크며, 정상적인 글자가 아닌 경우도 많다. 이는 다양한 층위에서 이루어졌던 고구려인들의 문자 사용의 실상을 보여 준다.

I have recently revised and supplemented my past work in light of recent research by other researchers on the reading of the Jian region’s Goguryeo wardangs. However, contrary to the recent research, it is believed that the ‘十谷民造’ wadang excavated from Usanha(禹山下) No. 3319 is the same wadang as the wadang[tilted roofend tile] excavated from the ruins of Isuwonjanam(梨樹園子南 ), and it is correct to read it as ‘十’ rather than ‘千’. ‘10谷’ means the 10 villages that made and supplied wadang. Among the wadang and roof tiles, the name of the subject who requested the production of the object is generally engraved. These include the year of Muja wadang and the year of Kichuk wadang(己丑年 瓦當) excavated from the Seodaemyo, wadang of general Jo(趙將軍) and general ho(胡將軍) roof tiles excavated from Cheonchuchong(千秋塚). It is believed that Goguryeo distributed roles in the construction and repair of royal tombs among the local population in order to show off the royal authority and spread the financial burden. Compared to the Wadang inscription, the inscription of general tiles are often free-spirited and not refined. This is because, unlike Wadang, many of the tile inscriptions are not inscriptions to show to others, but are engraved for functional purposes for the work of the producers. The letters engraved on the tile vary greatly in level, and in many cases, they are not normal. This shows the reality of the Goguryeo people’s use of letters at various levels.
