이수지 그림책 「선」과 「이렇게 멋진 날」에 나타난 유아 놀이의 의미 탐색

Meaning of children's play in Suzy Lee’s picture books

본 연구는 이수지 그림책 속에서 발견할 수 있는 유아 놀이의 의미를 탐색해보기 위하여, 2017년에 출간된 「선」과 「이렇게 멋진 날」이라는 두 작품을 분석해보았다. 연구 결과로는 먼저, ‘다양성 속의 보편성을 갖는 아이들의 놀이’로, 두 그림책에는 각자의 방식으로 다양 하게 놀이하는 아이들이 등장하는데, 서사가 진행될수록 다양성 속 보편성이 드러나면서 자유로움과 질서가 공존한다. 다음으로, ‘놀이를 지원하며 기다려주는 유아교사’로, 어떤 새로운 자극으로 전환점을 맞아 아이들의 놀이는 풍성해지고 확장되기도 하며, 이때 교사는 아이들 의 필요에 귀 기울이며 기다려주고 편안한 안식처 역할을 한다. 그리고 마지막으로, ‘함께 만들어가는 유아 놀이 공동체’는 하나의 정답이 있다기보다 정해진 것 없이 계속해서 생성되는 열린 체계라는 점을 강조하고, 그 가운데는 공통으로 지켜야 할 약속으로 최소한의 안전장치 를 필요로 한다고 해석하였다. 이러한 시도는 그림책, 특히 이수지 작가의 작품을 새롭고 심도 있게 이해해보기 위한 하나의 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

To explore the meaning of children's play that can be found in picture books, this study analyzed Suzy Lee's two works, “Line” and “This Beautiful Day”, published in 2017. This study revealed the following aspects: First, “universality in diversity”. In both picture books, children appear playing in a variety of ways in their own way. As the narrative progresses, universality is revealed in diversity, and freedom and order coexist. Next, the “role of the early childhood teacher who supports and waits”. At a turning point with some new stimulus, children's play becomes enriched and expanded, and at this time, the teacher listens to the children's needs, waits, and serves as a comfortable haven. Lastly, the children's play is a “still open answer sheet”, demonstrating that all of this is an open system that is continuously created without a set answer, rather than a single correct answer, among them, as a common promise to be kept, a minimum safety device is required. Through these attempts, the results of this study can be used as basic material for a new and in-depth understanding of picture books, especially the works of author Suzy Lee.
