A Survey Study of Young Orthodontists’ Perceptions of Digital Orthodontics in Korea

This survey study was conducted to investigate the young KAO members’ perceptions of digital orthodontics. In 2023, the survey was done on a target group of 231 orthodontists who completed orthodontic specialty course at a domestic training institution 6 to 10 years ago. The survey contents were 19 questions including (1) characteristics of the survey group, (2) types of digital equipment used in clinical practice by the survey subjects, (3) awareness on CBCT and clear aligners and (4) awareness of the government policy and university education related to digital orthodontics. The total number of final respondents was 177, and the response rate was 76.3%. Through this survey study, we have outlined how young KAO members perceive digital orthodontics recently. This study can offer useful value as a reference source for policy development for KAO members and educational curriculum of digital orthodontics for undergraduate students or orthodontic training course in dental schools. Also, the results from this study will highlight the need of research about the effects of non-face-to-face care on digital orthodontic practice.
