또래 괴롭힘을 다룬 그림책 읽기 과정에서 나타난 유아 반응

A Study on Young Children’s Responses to Bullying in Picture Books

본 연구의 목적은 또래 괴롭힘을 다룬 그림책을 읽는 과정에서 나타나는 유아의 반응을 통해 그림책 읽기가 또래 괴롭힘 예방 및 대처 지도에 있어 적절한 교수 매체가 될 수 있는지 탐색하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 경기도 A시 B유치원 만 5세 방과후 과정반 유아 18명을 연구참여자로 선정하여 또래 괴롭힘을 다룬 그림책 읽기를 총 18회기 진행하였다. 그림책 읽기를 진행하며 유아가 보인 반응은 모두 전사하였으며 전사된 자료는 질적 자료 분석 단계인 전사, 코딩, 주제 발견의 과정을 거쳐 분석하였다. 연구결과 또래 관련 그림책 읽기를 통해 유아들은 신체적 괴롭힘뿐만 아니라 공격적 언어와 같은 언어적 괴롭힘, 놀이에서 의도적으로 또래를 배제하는 관계적 괴롭힘도 또래 괴롭힘이 될 수 있다는 걸 이해하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 또래 괴롭힘을 경험하는 주인공의 마음에 공감하는 모습을 나타냈다. 나아가 또래 괴롭힘 상황에서 피해자로서 그리고 주변인으로서 어떻게 대처하는 것이 적절한지에 대해 기회를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 또래 괴롭힘을 다룬 그림책 읽기가 유아기에 나타날 수 있는 또래 괴롭힘을 예방하고, 유아들이 또래 괴롭힘에 적절하게 대처할 수 있는 방안을 지도하는데 있어 효율적인 교수활동이 될 수 있음을 시사한다.

This study explores whether reading picture books can serve as an appropriate teaching medium for preventing and coping with bullying based on children's responses while reading picture books about bullying. The study involved 18 five-year-olds in the after-school class of Kindergarten B in City A, Gyeonggi-do Province. The picture book reading sessions were conducted 18 times. Children's responses during the readings were transcribed, and the transcribed data were analyzed through qualitative data analysis steps, including transcription, coding, and thematic analysis. The results indicated that through reading picture books about bullying, children understood that bullying can manifest not only as physical aggression but also as verbal bullying, such as the use of aggressive language and relational bullying, which involves the intentional exclusion of peers from play. Additionally, the children showed empathy towards the protagonist who experienced bullying. They also had the opportunity to explore appropriate responses as both victims and bystanders in bullying situations. The findings of this study suggest that reading picture books about bullying can be an effective educational activity for preventing bullying in early childhood and teaching children how to cope with bullying appropriately.
