The Moderated Moderation Effect of Effortful Control and Mother Mindful Parenting in the Relationship Between Preschoolers Negative Emotionality and Aggressive Behavior

The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the moderated moderation effect of effortful control and mother mindful parenting in the relationship between preschoolers’ negative emotionality and aggressive behavior. For this purpose, 256 mothers of children aged 3 to 6 years, 129 boys(50.4%) and 127 girls(49.6%), were surveyed. Preschoolers’ negative emotionality, effortful control, aggressive behavior, and mother mindful parenting were measured. The hypotheses were tested using the PROCESS macro for moderated moderation analysis. The results showed a significant three-way interaction between preschoolers’ negative emotionality, effortful control, and mother mindful parenting. Alternatively, these results suggest that effortful control and mother mindful parenting can change the influence of the negative emotionality on preschoolers’ aggressive behavior. These findings suggest that it is important to examine specific inter-temperamental combinations and temperament-parenting combinations in an integrated manner to understand preschoolers’ aggressive behavior. Furthermore, the results of this study suggest that mindful parenting may be effective as part of parental counseling and education in addressing aggressive behavior in preschool children.
