The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effects of dependent interpersonal problem (dependent IP) and SNS use behaviors in the relationship between adolescents’ public self-consciousness (public SC) and SNS addiction proneness (SNS AP). For research analysis, 247 middle and high school students were surveyed using Self-Consciousness Scale, SNS Addiction Proneness Scale, Korea Inventory of Interpersonal Problem Circumplex Scale, and SNS Use Behavior Scale (Posting, Sharing, Reassurance-Seeking, and Consuming). Data was analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 and PROCESSS macro and validity of serial mediation model was tested. The results of the study are as follows. Firstly, Public SC, dependent IP, Posting, Sharing, and Reassurance-Seeking, and SNS AP were found to be positively correlated with each other, while Consuming was found to have no significant correlation with the other variables included. Secondly, analyses found that dependent IP and each of Posting, Sharing, and Reassurance-Seeking SNS behaviors sequentially mediated between public SC and SNS AP. These results demonstrate the importance of public self-conscious as a main predictor for adolescent SNS addiction proneness and further suggest powerful interpersonal and SNS behavioral paths mediating between these two variables.
