The Influence of Early Childhood Teachers’ Multicultural Education Experience on Teacher-Multicultural Children Interactions: The Mediating Role of Multicultural Teaching Efficacy
This study aims to not only investigate the relationship between early childhood teachers’ multicultural education experience and teacher–multicultural child interactions but also examine the mediating effect of teachers’ multicultural teaching efficacy between the two other variables mentioned above. Data were collected from 164 early childhood teachers in Gyeonggi-do from February to April 2021. Descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation analysis were employed to analyze the collected data, and the PROCESS macro program was used to identify the mediating effect and verify its significance. The findings showed positive correlations among the three variables, and a significant mediating role of multicultural teaching efficacy was found. Accordingly, this study stresses the importance of developing multicultural education programs for early childhood teachers as well as verifying the programs’ effects on teachers’ multicultural teaching efficacy. As the relationship between the multicultural education experience of early childhood teachers and teacher–multicultural child interaction is mediated by the multicultural teaching efficacy of teachers, multicultural education programs need to be more accessible to early childhood teachers, and the effectiveness of such programs should be tested to improve the quality of programs and education
