시각장애인의 장애수용에 관한 질적연구: 유튜브 동영상을 중심으로

Qualitative Study on Disability Acceptance in Visual Impairment: Focusing on YouTube Video Analysis

연구 목적: 중도 시각장애 유튜버의 장애수용 경험을 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구 방법: 중도 시각장애 유튜버 3명의 채널에서 총 61개의 영상을 수집하여, 오픈 소스 영상에 나타난 장애수용 경험에 대한 주제분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과: 충격 후 혼란, 부정, 위축과 고립, 장애수용, 장애와 함께 하는 삶의 재발견의 5개의 주제가 도출되었고, ‘장애와 함께 도약하는 삶’이라는 중심 주제를 발견하였다. 시각장애 유튜버는 희귀난치성 질환으로 인한 중도 실명 후 큰 충격과 혼란을 경험하였으며, 초기에는 자신과 장애를 부정하고 위축되어 다른 사람들과의 관계를 회피하며 고립을 선택하였다. 장애를 수용한 후에는 사회적 장벽을 인식하고 이를 극복하기 위해 유튜브를 통해 사회 변화를 촉구하기 위해 노력을 했다. 때때로 굳건한 사회적 제약으로 허망함을 느끼며, 과거에 장애가 없었던 삶에 대한 그리움도 나타났다. 결론: 중도 시각장애인의 장애수용은 삶의 재가치를 발견하는 역동적인 과정이며, 자신들의 성장과 사회적 역할을 찾아가는 확장된 성장의 여정으로 확인되었다.

Purpose: This study aims to explore the disability acceptance experiences of YouTubers with acquired visual impairments. Method: We collected 61 videos from three channels of YouTubers with acquired visual impairments, and conducted a thematic analysis of the disability acceptance experiences depicted in these open-source videos. Results: Five themes were identified: post-shock confusion, denial, shrinkage and isolation, disability acceptance, and rediscovery of life with a disability. A central theme, "Leaping forward with disability," emerged from the analysis. The YouTubers experienced significant shock and confusion after sudden vision loss due to rare incurable diseases. Initially, they denied their disability and themselves, choosing isolation by avoiding relationships with others. Once accepting their disability, they recognized societal barriers and actively used YouTube to advocate social change. Occasionally, they felt a sense of futility due to strong social constraints and longed for their lives before the disability. Conclusion: The acceptance of disability among YouTubers with acquired visual impairments is a dynamic process of rediscovering the value of life, marking an expanded journey of growth towards finding their growth and societal roles.
