Background: Today, many physicians are forced to overwork. The reality is that there is not enough time to take care of yourself or talk to your family because they are spending time splitting time on work and research. This is because ‘work ethics’ has been continuously emphasized in the reality of health care so far, but ‘relaxation ethics’ has been overlooked. Methods: This study conducts literature research from a theoretical and universal perspective on the background of the periodic, social, and cultural landscape in which health care workers live today and the characteristics formed accordingly. To this end, we will follow four steps in carrying out Richard R. Osmer's practical theological task. First, through the first two steps, we will describe the reality that health care workers are forced to overwork today, and analyze the causes. Next, according to Osmer's third and fourth steps, the necessity of the ethical norms of rest is mentioned, and the practical direction of rest is sought. Results: The reasons why physicians cannot rest today are as follows. First, physicians today are sometimes busy and busy entering information into unnecessary and standardized health systems. Second, smartphones interfere with rest. Third, many people perceive rest and laziness as the same, so they cannot rest well. Fourth, it is because many people do not know how to rest. Therefore, in today's medical field, a specific ethics and system of rest must be urgently introduced. Conclusion: Physicians who are forced to overwork will benefit not only themselves but also patients in the long run when practicing the ethics of rest and time-off, which will eventually contribute to creating a more humane and warm medical field.
