Evaluation of the utility of divided-movable electric bed (Tango®): patient sleep characteristics and nurse satisfaction

  • 5

Tango®, a divided-movable electric bed, aims to alleviate musculoskeletal stress on caregivers and healthcare staff by facilitating easy patient transfer. This study empirically evaluates patient sleep patterns and nurse satisfaction with Tango® use. Twelve patients were observed for 68 days, with sleep parameters measured using Actigraph. Additionally, 36 nurses were surveyed for satisfaction. Subjects exhibited an average sleep latency of 5.68 minutes (±6.41) and aver-age sleep efficiency of 89.12% (±8.63). Average time spent in bed to sleep was 332.63 minutes (±172.46). Satisfaction survey results indicated Tango®’s superiority over conventional beds in patient care (4.06±.83), with reduced back (4.08±.77), wrist (3.92±.73), and lower leg pain (3.83±.74). Nurses expressed intent to recommend Tango®’s use (4.22±.72). Tango® did not adversely affect patient sleep health, with no safety incidents reported. High nurse satisfaction suggests potential for widespread Tango® implementation in patient care.
