The Effect of Young Children’s Difficult Temperament on Behavioral Problems in young children : Sequential Mediating Effect of Mothers’ parenting efficacy and parenting attitude

본 연구는 유아의 까다로운 기질이 유아의 문제행동에 미치는 영향에서 어머니의 양육효능감과 어머니의 양육태도의 매개효과를 통합적으로 살펴보고자 실시되었다. 이를 검증하기 위해 전국 만 3~5세 유아를 자녀로 둔 어머니 328명을 대상으로 유아의 기질, 어머니의 양육효능감, 어머니의 양육태도, 유아의 문제행동을 측정하였다. 본 연구의 결과 첫째, 유아의 까다로운 기질, 어머니의 양육효능감, 어머니의 양육태도, 유아의 문제행동 모든 요인은 서로 유의한 상관을 나타냈다. 둘째, 유아의 까다로운 기질은 어머니의 양육태도를 매개하여 유아의 문제행동에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미쳤으나, 유아의 까다로운 기질과 유아의 문제행동 간의 관계에서 어머니의 양육효능감은 유의한 매개효과를 보이지 않았다. 마지막으로, 어머니의 양육효능감과 어머니의 양육태도는 유아의 까다로운 기질과 유아의 문제행동 간의 관계를 순차적으로 매개하여 유의한 간접효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 유아의 문제행동에 영향을 미치는 개인 내·외적 변인을 다각적으로 이해하는데 필요한 기초자료를 제공하였고, 이후 어머니의 긍정적인 양육에 영향을 주기 위한 접근 순서의 기초 지식에 대한 시사점을 제공하였다.

This study investigates the integrated mediating effects of maternal parenting efficacy and maternal parenting attitudes on the relationship between children's difficult temperament and problematic behaviors. Utilizing a sample of 328 mothers of children aged 3-5 years from across the nation, we measured children's temperament, maternal parenting efficacy, maternal parenting attitudes (PPI), and children's problematic behaviors (K-CBCL 1.5-5). The findings are as follows: First, significant correlations were observed among children's difficult temperament, maternal parenting efficacy, maternal parenting attitudes, and children's problematic behaviors. Second, children's difficult temperament had a statistically significant impact on children's problematic behaviors mediated by maternal parenting attitudes; however, the mediating effect of maternal parenting efficacy on children's problematic behaviors was not statistically significant. Lastly, it was determined that children's difficult temperament indirectly impacted problematic behaviors via a sequential mediation pathway involving maternal parenting efficacy and maternal parenting attitudes. These findings provide fundamental background suggesting the importance of maternal roles as primary caregivers and both internal and external variables in understanding the direct impact of children's difficult temperament on their problematic behaviors. Moreover, the study provides foundational insights for the order of approaches to positively influence maternal parenting practices.
