The effect of mother’s happiness and mother’s parental behavior on children’s happiness

This study examined the effects of mother’s happiness and parental behavior on children’s happiness. The study sample was 1331 elementary school forth graders (655 boys, 656 girls) who had participated in the eleventh wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children (PSKC). The data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlations and regression analysis with SPSS 23.0. The results are as follows. First, mother’s happiness and parental behavior had a significant correlation on children’s happiness. Second, mother’s authoritative paternal behavior and permissive paternal behavior are predict variables for children’s happiness. These results add to a better understanding of the mechanism linking mother’s happiness and parental behavior on children’s happiness. These findings can serve as an important contribution to future research and practices for increasing children’s happiness.
