자살유가족 상담업무를 수행하는 사회복지사의 대리외상 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구

A Phenomenological Study on Vicarious Trauma Experienced by Social Workers Who Provide Counseling Services to Suicide Bereaved Families

본 연구의 목적은 자살유가족을 대상으로 상담업무를 수행하는 사회복지사의 대리외상 경험을 탐색하여 이를 바탕으로 자살예방실천현장의 사회복지사들을 위한 지원과 환경개선을 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 것이다. 연구참여자는 자살예방센터와 정신건강복지센터에 근무하며 자살유가족을 대상으로 상담업무를 제공하는 사회복지사 5명이다. 자료수집은 일대일 심층 면접을 통하여 이루어졌으며, 수집된 자료는 Giorgi의 현상학적 방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 본 연구에서는 자살유가족 상담업무를 수행하는 사회복지사의 대리외상 경험과 관련한 3가지 주제(‘슬픔을 함께 짊어짐’, ‘애도를 도움으로써 단단해짐’, ‘남겨진 이에서 보내는 이로의 변화에 함께함’)와 6가지 하위주제(‘안전지대를 만듦’, ‘기꺼이 수용함’, ‘애도를 지척에서 마주함’, ‘견딤’, ‘적응과 성숙’, ‘남겨진 이들의 곁에 섬’)를 도출하였다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 자살유가족을 대상으로 상담업무를 수행하는 사회복지사의 대리외상 극복 및 지원을 위한 실천적, 정책적 함의를 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study is to explore vicarious trauma experienced by social workers who provide counseling services to suicide bereaved families and to provide basic data for supporting and improving the environment for social workers in suicide prevention practice. Study participants were five social workers who work at suicide prevention centers and mental health welfare centers, providing counseling services to suicide bereaved families. Data collection was conducted through individual in-depth interviews, and the collected data were analyzed using Giorgi's phenomenological analysis method. The analysis revealed three main themes (‘bearing sadness together,’ ‘strengthening through mourning support,’ ‘joining in the transition from the one left behind to the one who sends off,’ and six sub-themes (‘creating a safe zone,’ ‘willingness to accept,’ ‘closely encountering the mourning process,’ ‘enduring,’ ‘adaptation and maturity, and ’being there for bereaved families’) related to vicarious trauma experiences of social workers providing counseling services to suicide bereaved families. Based on these results, this study discussed practical and policy implications for overcoming and supporting vicarious trauma among social workers providing counseling services to suicide bereaved families.
