초등사회과 지리 교육 대상으로서 제주 모슬포 한국전쟁 유적의 가치 탐색

Exploring the Value of Jeju Moseulpo Korean War Relics as a Subject for Geography Education of Elementary Social Studies

본 연구는 제주 모슬포의 대정초등학교 운동장에 세워진 공군훈적비를 비롯하여 학교 주변 한국전쟁 유적을 초등사회과 지리 교육 대상으로서 가치를 탐색하였다. 역사적, 지리적, 교육적 가치로 나누어 도출하였으며 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 모슬포의 한국전쟁 관련 유적들은 지리적으로 후방에 위치한 제주도가 한국전쟁의 전초기지로서 역할을 한 실증적인 역사적 자료로서 큰 가치가 있다. 둘째, 모슬포는 지리적 요건으로 인해 한국전쟁 이전 일제강점기부터 군사적인 요충지로 활용되었고 대한민국 근현대사의 중요한 장소로서 높은 지리적 가치를 지니고 있다. 셋째, 모슬포의 한국전쟁 유적이 과거에 어떠한 장소였고 어떠한 의미를 지니며, 현재는 어떻게 사용되고 있는지 교육을 통해 배워나가며 나와 지역, 나아가 국가와의 관계로 지리적 공간을 확장하며 자신의 정체성을 형성해 갈 수 있는 교육적 가치를 지닌다. 또한 지역경관 답사 등의 프로그램을 통해 학습자들의 지리적 경험의 장을 넓힐 수 있는 대상으로 충분히 활용이 가능하다.

This study explored the value of the Air Force Memorial Monument erected on the playground of Daejeong Elementary School and other Korean War relics around the school as subjects of elementary social studies geography education, Values were categorized as historical, geographical, and educational values, and the results are as follows. First, the ruins related to the Korean War in Moseulpo are of great value as empirical historical data that Jeju Island, located geographically in the rear, served as an outpost for the Korean War. Second, Moseulpo has been used as a military site since the pre-Korean War Japanese colonial era for geographical reasons and plays an important role in the modern and contemporary history of the Republic of Korea. Third, it has educational value for identity formation by expanding the geographical space through relations with me personality, the region, and the country by teaching about the history behind the Korean War relics and what they mean and how they are used today. In addition, it can be fully used as an object to expand the geographical experience of learners through programs such as local landscape exploration.
