종교교재 개발의 과제와 전망

Challenges and Prospects for the Development of Religious Textbooks

[연구 목적] 본 연구는 종교교과와 종교교재에 대한 종교교육학적 분석과 평가를 통해 종교교재 개발의 과제와 전망을 제시하는 데 목적이 있다. [연구 내용] 종교문화는 한 시대와 사회를 결정짓는 중요한 요소이자 변수이다. 따라서 종교는 그 사회의 문화와 역사를 인식하는 중요한 통로 역할을 한다. 하지만, 종교현상에 대한 보다 폭넓은 이해가 필요한 한국 사회는 종교적 문맹을 완화하고 종교문해력을 강화하기 위한 ‘종교에 관한 교육’을 접할 기회가 없다. 대다수 학교에서 진행하고 있는 종교교육은 특정한 종교적 배경 아래 운영됨에 따라 종교이념을 일방적으로 전달하는 과목으로, 혹은 신앙의 자유를 제약하는 제도 정도로 인식되고 있다. 종교 간 평화가 아닌 반목을 조장하는 교육, 종교적 문맹을 양산하는 교육에 머물러 있다. [결론] 이러한 견지에서 본 연구는 종교교과 변화의 양상을 추적하고, 종교교재의 종교교육학적 분석과 평가를 통하여 바람직한 종교교육의 방향을 제시하고자 한다. 나아가 종교적 중립성이 확보된 보편적 교양교육으로서의 종교교육을 제안한다.

[Objective] The purpose of this study is to present the challenges and prospects of religious textbook development through religious pedagogical analysis and evaluation of religious subjects and religious textbooks. [Contents] Religion and culture are important factors and variables that define an era and society. Therefore, religion serves as an important conduit to recognize the culture and history of a society. However, Korean society, which needs a broader understanding of religious phenomena, does not have access to education about religion to alleviate religious illiteracy and strengthen religious literacy. Religious education in most schools is perceived as a one-sided indoctrination of religious ideology, or as a system that restricts freedom of faith, as it operates under a specific religious background. Instead of promoting interreligious peace, it promotes antagonism and religious illiteracy. [Conclusions] In this light, this study aims to trace the changes in religious education and suggest the direction of desirable religious education through the analysis and evaluation of religious pedagogical materials. Furthermore, it proposes religious education as a universal liberal arts education with religious neutrality.
