예비 교사들의 기후변화 교육 사례 연구 -EARTH HOUR 활동을 중심으로-

Case Study on Climate Change Education in Pre-service Teachers -with the Focus on Earth Hour Activities-

연구의 목적은 사범대학 지구과학교육과에 개설한 기후변화 수업을 통해 지속가능발전의 13번 목표인 기후변화 대응(climate action)을 위한 교육이 대학에 정착하는 사례를 소개하는 것이다. 1학년 전공 선택 영역의 ‘기후변화교육탐구’ 과목에서 Earth Hour 활동을 포함한 기후변화 교육을 수행하였다. 53명의 예비 지구과학 교사들이 기후변화 수업에 참여하였다. 본 연구에서는 12가지 주제의 강의를 진행하고 지구 달력, Earth Hour, 줍깅 프로젝트, 캠퍼스 환경 지도 등의 모둠 활동을 병행하였다. 예비 교사들은 기후변화를 우리의 일상과 연계하여 인식하고 있으나 자연적 요인보다 인위적 요인에 집중하였다. 기후변화 수업에 긍정적으로 반응하였으며 관심과 흥미 유발 및 만족성 항목을 높게 평가하였다. 또한 기후변화 교육 프로그램의 사례로 Earth Hour 활동의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다. 예비 교사들에게 세계 시민으로서 국제적 환경 캠페인에 동참하는 경험을 제공하였다. 고등학교뿐만 아니라 대학에서도 특히 사범대학에서는 기후변화 교육과정이 필요하다. 대학을 중심으로 기후변화 교육 프로그램을 개발하고 실천하는 연구가 지속가능성을 가져야 할 것이다.

The purpose of study is to introduce a case in which education for climate action, the 13th goal of sustainable development, is established in universities through climate change classes opened in the Earth Science education department of the college of education. Climate change education, including earth hour activities, was conducted in the Inquiry of climate change education subject in the first-year major elective area. Fifty-three pre-service earth science teachers participated in a climate change class. In this study, lectures on 12 topics were conducted, and group activities such as Earth Calendar, Earth Hour, Joobging Project, and Campus Environmental Maps were conducted in parallel. Pre-service teachers recognize climate change in connection with our daily lives, but focused on artificial factors rather than natural factors. They responded positively to the climate change class and evaluated the items of interest, excitement, and satisfaction highly. In addition, the applicability of earth hour activities was confirmed as an example of climate change education programs. It provided pre-service teachers with the experience of participating in international environmental campaigns as global citizens. Climate change curriculum is needed not only in high schools but also in universities, especially in the college of education. Research on developing and implementing climate change education programs centered on universities must be sustainable.
