The Methods and Effect of Prophylactic Dressings on the Incidence of Pressure Injury in Hospitalized Adult Patients : Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trial
- 192
Purpose: This study was conducted to systematically review and analyze the methods and effect of a prophylactic dressing applied to prevent pressure injuries. Methods: In this study, a systematic review was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines. The inclusion criteria were as follows: the population (p) consisted of hospitalized adult patients over 18 years of age, the interventions (I) were prophylactic dressing, the comparison (C) was with usual care, the outcome (O) was prevention (incidence) of pressure ulcers, and study design (SD) was all prospective RCTs. This systematic review was registered with PROSPERO on September 11, 2021 (CRD42021272944). Results: Nine articles (4,260 patients) were finally included in the systematic review. Regarding the overall bias, one study had a low risk, three studies had some concerns and five studies had high risk. As for the effect of prophylactic dressings, 8 studies presented statistically significant results, and 1 study presented not statistically significant results. Conclusion: In studies excluding one study, there was an effect of prophylactic dressing to prevent pressure injury in adult patients admitted to the hospital. The results of this study can be used as a scientific basis for preventing pressure injuries in hospitalized adult patients.
