Purpose: This study aimed to explore the readiness of nursing students for clinical practice. Methods: The participants of this study were 32 third-year nursing students enrolled at a university in Seoul. After completing their clinical practice, the participants were asked to engage in self-reflection on the "readiness of nursing students for clinical practice" and submit a self-reflection journal, which was then analyzed using qualitative content analysis methods. Results: From the collected data, 130 open codes were identified, leading to the extraction of 7 subcategories and 3 main categories. The readiness of nursing students for clinical practice before starting the same was categorized into 'self-management for practice adaptation,' 'acceptance of the field,' and 'professionalism for nursing performance.' Conclusion: This study significantly contributes to promoting adaptation to effective clinical practice and fostering a positive perception of nursing by exploring the readiness required of nursing students before stepping into clinical practice. It is suggested that future development of educational programs need to be developed in the future to strengthen the readiness of nursing students for initiation into clinical practice.
