이 질적연구는 대한민국 최초의 흑인 혼혈 체육 교사이자 야구 감독이었던 김영도 선생의 생애사를 다룬다. 김영도 선생은 한국인 어머니와 미군 병사인 아버지 사이에서 태어났다. 뚜렷이 다른 피부색으로 인해 그는 무수히 많은 차별과 폭력에 노출되었으며, 그 아픔은 자녀들에게도 대물림되었다. 2018년 5월 첫 인터뷰를 시작으로 2022년 9월 다큐멘터리 촬영까지, 김영도 선생의 인생을 다각도로 듣고, 보고, 기록한 데이터를 바탕으로 그의 생애사가 완성되었다. 이를 통해 1950년대부터 1980년대 중반까지 혼혈인이 겪어야 했던 차별적 인식과 사회 억압적 구조를 발견했다. 한 개인이 차별적인 사회구조를 돌파하며 진정한 교육자로 성장하는 과정에서, 여러 스승들과 야구가 어떤 의미를 지니는지 확인할 수 있었다.
