앤서니 브라운(Anthony Browne)의 그림책에 나타나는 회복탄력성 내용 분석: 좌절과 극복의 과정을 바탕으로

An Analysis of Resilience in Anthony Browne’s Picture Books: Based on the Process of Frustration and Overcoming

본 연구는 앤서니 브라운(Anthony Browne)의 그림책 중 회복탄력성과 관련된 그림책을 선정하고, 회복탄력성이 어떤 양상으로 나타나는지 알아보기 위해 수행되었다. 이를 위해 회복탄력성과 관련된 그림책을 선정하기 위한 기준을 설정하고, 국내에서 발간된 앤서니 브라운이 직접 글을 쓰고 그림을 그린 그림책 7권을 선정하여 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 앤서니 브라운의 그림책에서는 작고 여린 등장인물에게 부정적인 영향을 미치는 상황이 전개되며, 이를 해결하기 위해 등장인물이 스스로 노력하거나 주변의 도움을 받는 등의 과정을 경험하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 이러한 좌절과 고난의 극복을 통해 등장인물은 자신에 대한 긍정적인 인식과 심리적 안정감, 성공의 경험을 얻고 있었다. 앤서니 브라운의 그림책에 나타나는 회복탄력성의 내용은 유아에게 고난과 역경은 극복할 수 있는 것이며, 다양한 방식으로 해결이 가능하다는 점을 재미있는 글과 그림으로 전달하고 있다. 이런 간접적인 경험을 통해 유아들은 회복탄력성의 가치를 인식할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

The purpose of this study was to select picture books related to resilience in Anthony Browne's picture books and to examine how resilience appears. For this purpose, the criteria for selecting picture books related to resilience were set and selected. Thus, 7 picture books written and drawn by Anthony Brown published in Korea were examined. The results of this study are as follows. In Anthony Browne's picture books, situations that negatively affect small and soft-hearted characters arise, and the characters experience trying on their own or getting help from others to solve them. In addition, through overcoming these frustrations and hardships, the characters gained a positive perception of themselves, psychological stability, and experience of success. The contents of resilience shown in Anthony Brown's picture book convey that children can overcome hardships and adversity and solve them in various ways, with interesting writings and pictures. Through this indirect experience, it is expected that children will be able to recognize the value of resilience.
