그림책에 나타난 놀이 분석

Analysis of Children’s Play in Picture Books

본 연구의 목적은 취학 전 유아들이 즐겨 읽는 그림책에 나타나는 놀이를 깊이 이해하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 국내에서 출판된 국내 및 국외 작가의 ‘놀이’를 주제로 한 창작 그림책 201권을 선정하여 놀이 유형, 놀이에 사용되는 도구, 놀이 장소, 놀이 대상, 그리고 성인의 역할에 대해 분석하였다. 연구 결과는 첫째, 그림책에 나타난 놀이 유형으로 신체놀이, 상징놀이, 구성놀이, 게임놀이, 언어놀이, 기능 놀이 순으로 가장 많이 나타났다. 둘째, 그림책에 나타난 놀이 도구로는 생활용품, 자연물, 인터렉티브 그림책, 대근육 놀이 도구, 모형 놀이 도구, 조형 재료, 신체, 전통 놀이 도구, 구성 놀이 도구, 말, 전자기기, 조작 놀이 도구 순으로 가장 많이 나타났다. 셋째, 그림책에 나타난 놀이 장소는 방안, 거실 등의 집 공간이 가장 많았으며, 숲, 바다, 들판과 같은 자연이 많이 나타났다. 넷째, 그림책에 나타난 놀이 대상은 또래가 가장 많이 나타났으며, 다음으로 부모, 형제자매, 초현실적 존재, 동물, 조부모, 상상 친구, 이웃과 선생님, 기타 친척 순으로 많이 나타났다. 다섯째, 그림책에 나타난 놀이에서 성인의 역할로는 놀이 참여가 가장 많이 나타났으며, 놀이 지원, 놀이 제지, 놀이 관찰 역할이 많이 나타났다. 유아는 책 읽기를 통해 간접적으로 놀이를 즐길 뿐만 아니라 책 속 놀이를 실제 자신의 놀이로 확장하기를 즐긴다. 따라서 그림책 속에 나타난 놀이를 체계적으로 분석한 본 연구 결과는 유아의 놀이를 이해하고 지원하기 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

The purpose of this study was to obtain a deep understanding of the plays depicted in the picture books that preschool children enjoy reading. Among the picture books whose theme is related to ‘play,’ 201 picture books that are written by domestic/international authors and published in South Korea were selected for this study and were analyzed according to criteria established by the researcher. The findings of this research reveal insights into various aspects. First, the types of play depicted in the picture books appeared most frequently in the following order: physical play, symbolic play, constructive play, game play, language play, and functional play. Second, the play materials depicted in picture books most commonly appeared in the following order: household items, natural objects, interactive picture books, large muscle play materials, model play materials, art materials, body, traditional play materials, constructive play materials, speech, electronic devices, and manipulative play materials. Third, the predominant play locations depicted in the picture books were indoor spaces like rooms and living rooms, followed by nature such as forests, seas, and fields. Fourth, in picture books, the most frequently depicted playmates were peers, followed by parents, siblings, surreal beings, animals, grandparents, friends that exist only in imagination, neighbors, teachers, and other relatives. Fifth, the most frequent role of adults in the play depicted in the picture books was being a participant, followed by providing play support, restricting the play, and observing the play. Children not only enjoy playing indirectly through reading books but also extend the play depicted in the picture books into their own real-life play. Therefore, the results of this study, which systemically analyzed the plays in the picture books, are expected to serve as foundational data for understanding and supporting children’s play.
