그림책에 나타난 대극의 경계로서의 사과의 상징성

The symbolism of apples as a boundary between opposites in picture books

본 연구에서는 사과의 상징성에서 나타난 대극적 경계가 영유아의 심리발달에서 갖는 의미를 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 분석심리학의 원형적 상징 분석 관점에서 2000년대에 발간된 사과가 등장하는 51편의 영유아용 그림책을 대상으로 사과의 원형적 상징과 그것들이 나타나는 방식을 분석하고, 그림책에 나타난 사과의 상징성이 영유아의 심리발달에서 갖는 의미에 대해 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 영유아용 그림책에서 사과는 풍요・사랑・생명력, 죽음, 질투・지혜・용기, 열정, 구원・희망, 일체성・합일・공존 등의 사과의 원형적 상징성이 나타나고 있었으며, 이러한 사과의 상징성을 기반으로 독서 놀이를 진행할 경우, 영유아의 심리발달 단계에 따라 필요한 다양한 대극적 경계를 제공하고 있어 영유아의 인격 발달을 촉진시킬 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 최근에는 사과의 상징적 의미를 재해석한 그림책들이 나타나면서 영유아들에게 다양한 가치를 존중하고 포용하는 경험을 제공함으로써 현대사회가 요구하는 사회성 발달도 촉진시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

In this study, we will examine the meaning of the polar boundaries in the symbolism of apples in the psychological development of infants and toddlers. To this end, from the perspective of the archetypal symbol analysis of analytical psychology, we analyzed the archetypal symbols of apples and the way they appear in 51 picture books for infants and toddlers published in the 2000s that feature apples and examined the meaning of the symbolism of apples in the picture books in the psychological development of infants and toddlers. As a result of the analysis, the archetypal symbolism of apples in the picture books for infants and toddlers was shown, such as abundance, love, vitality, death, jealousy, wisdom, courage, passion, salvation, hope, unity, unification, and coexistence. We confirmed that if reading play is conducted based on the symbolism of apples, it can provide various polar boundaries necessary according to the psychological development stage of infants and toddlers and thus promote the personality development of infants and toddlers. In addition, as picture books that reinterpret the symbolic meaning of apples have recently appeared, it is expected that they will be able to promote the development of sociality required by modern society by providing young children with experiences of respecting and embracing various values.
