팬데믹 상황에서 자연친화교육에 대한 어린이집 원장의 인식, 실태 및 요구

A study on daycare center directors’ perception, actual conditions, and needs for nature-friendly education in a pandemic situation

본 연구는 코로나19 상황에서 자연친화교육에 대한 어린이집 원장의 인식, 실태 및 요구를 파악하여 유아교육현장에서의 자연친화교육의 방안을 모색하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에는 D광역시 어린이집 원장 30명을 대상으로 자연친화교육에 대한 인식과 현황, 개선 방안에 대한 의견을 설문조사와 면담 자료를 수집하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 본 연구에 참여한 어린이집 원장들은 자연친화교육으로 유아교육 방향 전환의 필요성에 대해 매우 깊이 공감하고 있었다. 둘째, 실제 자연친화교육은 ‘유아 안전 및 통제, 활동 보조인력의 부족, 공간 부족, 부모 우려, 프로그램의 다양성 부족’의 순으로 어려움이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 자연친화교육의 선결 요건은 ‘프로그램 개발, 원장과 교사의 신념과 의지, 유아교육기관 주변 환경 개선, 학부모의 인식 개선, 원장 및 교사교육 기회의 확대’ 순으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 팬데믹을 경험한 어린이집 원장들의 의견을 수집, 분석하여 자연친화교육의 방향성을 탐색하였다는 데 의의가 있다. 지속가능발전을 지향하는 자연친화교육으로 나아가기 위해서는 흥미 위주의 단순한 자연체험활동의 수준을 넘어 유아들의 생명 연대감과 환경 감수성을 지원하는 교사들의 실천적 역량 함양의 중요성이 제안되었다.

This study explored ways to provide nature-friendly education in early childhood education by identifying the perceptions, actual conditions, and demands of daycare center directors regarding nature-friendly education in a pandemic situation. For this purpose, this study collected and analyzed survey and interview data on the awareness and status of nature-friendly education and opinions on improvement plans from daycare center directors in a metropolitan city. The results of this study were as follows. First, the daycare center directors who participated in this study deeply sympathized with the need to change the direction of early childhood education toward nature-friendly education. Second, in reality, nature-friendly education was found to be difficult to apply in the following order: ‘control and safety of young children, lack of activity assistants, lack of space, parental concerns, and lack of program diversity.’ Third, the prerequisites for nature-friendly education were ‘program development, the beliefs and will of directors and teachers, improvement of the environment around early childhood education institutions, improvement of parents’ awareness, and expansion of opportunities for education for directors and teachers.’ This study is significant as it explored the direction of nature-friendly education among daycare center directors who experienced the COVID-19 pandemic. This study suggests that to advance toward nature-friendly education focused on sustainable development, it is important to enhance teachers' practical abilities to foster young children's connection with life and environmental awareness, going beyond merely offering nature activities centered on interest.
