영유아 자녀의 미디어 사용 및 지도 경험에 따른 미디어 리터러시 부모교육 요구

Young children’s media use experiences and media literacy needs for parent education

본 연구는 양육 과정에서 영유아 자녀의 미디어 사용 및 지도 경험에 따른 자녀의 미디어 리터러시 역량을 키우는 부모교육을 위한 부모의 요구를 알아보는 데 목적이 있다. 1-5세 영유아 자녀를 둔 부모 10명을 대상으로 개별 면담을 진행하여 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 전사 후 범주화하여 분석하였으며, 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 영유아 자녀의 가정에서 미디어 사용 및 지도 경험에 따른 미디어 리터러시와 관련된 부모교육 요구로는 미디어 사용과 조절에 따른 요구, 상호작용 측면의 요구, 발달과 놀이 확장 측면의 요구, 다양한 방법의 활용과 학습 연계 측면의 요구, 부모교육 형식 측면의 요구가 있었다. 부모는 자녀의 미디어 사용에 대해 높은 관심과 우려를 하고 있었다. 학습적으로 미디어의 활용이 자녀의 발달에 도움 되기를 기대하였지만, 현실은 폭력적이고 선정적인 콘텐츠의 노출과 과몰입에 대한 우려가 컸고, 자녀의 미디어 사용시간의 조절에 많은 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 부모들은 자녀의 미디어 리터러시 역량을 키우기 위한 구체적이고 실제적인 방안이 부모교육에 포함되어야 한다고 보았고, 자녀의 긍정적 발달과 학습적인 지원을 위한 방안 제시가 요구된다고 보았다. 본 연구결과는 향후 영유아기 자녀를 둔 부모와 자녀의 미디어리터리시 역량을 키우는 프로그램 개발에 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to examine parents' experiences with their young children’s media use and to understand their needs for education that would help develop their children's media literacy skills. Data were collected by conducting individual interviews with 10 parents of infants and toddlers aged 1-5 years. The data was transcribed, categorized, and analyzed, leading to the following key findings. Parents identified several key areas of need for media literacy education based on their experiences with media use and guidance at home: media use and control needs, enhancing interaction, expanding media use for development and play, integrating multiple learning methods, and determining effective formats for parent education. Parents expressed a high level of interest and concern regarding their children's media use. While they recognized media’s potential to support academic development, they were worried about exposure to violent and sensationalized content, over-immersion, and the struggle to control their children's media time. Parents emphasized that media literacy education should provide specific, practical strategies to foster their children's positive development and learning through media. The findings of this study may have implications for the development of programs that support parents in enhancing their children's media literacy skills during early childhood.
