MZ세대의 사회자본과 의사소통 능력 간의 관계: 공감의 매개효과를 중심으로

Mediating Role of Empathy in the Relationship between Social Capital and Communication Competence in Generation MZ

본 연구는 우리 사회에서 가장 많은 주목을 받는 MZ세대의 의사소통 능력 증진을 모색하기 위하여 사회자본, 즉, 온라인 교량자본, 오프라인 교량자본, 사회적 관계망이 의사소통 능력에 미치는 영향이 공감을 통해 매개되는지 실증적으로 검증하였다. 이를 위해 한국청소년정책연구원에서 2022년에 실시한 ‘코로나-19 시대 MZ세대의 사회성 발달 연구’의 MZ세대 3,971명의 자료에 대하여 SPSS 23.0을 사용하여 다중회귀분석을 실시하였으며, bootstrapping 방법을 통한 매개효과의 통계적 유의성을 검증하기 위하여 PROCESS 4.3의 model 4를 사용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과, 온라인 교량자본, 오프라인 교량자본, 사회적 관계망은 각각 공감과 의사소통 능력에 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미치며, 공감 역시 의사소통 능력에 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 온라인 교량자본, 오프라인 교량자본, 사회적 관계망과 의사소통 능력 간의 관계에서 공감은 모두 통계적으로 유의한 매개효과를 가지는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 결과에 근거하여 MZ세대의 의사소통 능력을 증진하기 위한 방안으로서, 공감 증진 프로그램의 개발, MZ세대의 발달적 맥락에 대한 공감과 이해, 그리고 사회자본 확충 기회 제공 등과 관련된 함의를 제시하였다.

This study empirically examines whether empathy mediates the effects of social capital-- online social capital, offline social capital, and social networks--on communication competence among generation MZ(Millennials and generation Z). Hence, a multiple regression analysis was conducted using SPSS 23.0 on data from 3,971 members of Generation MZ, obtained from the ‘Study on the Social Competence Development of Generation MZ in the COVID-19 Era,’ conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. Additionally, the statistical significance of the mediating effect was verified using PROCESS 4.3 model 4 via bootstrapping. The results indicate that online social capital, offline social capital, and social networks positively and significantly affect both empathy and communication competence, and that empathy positively affects communication competence significantly. Furthermore, empathy exerts a statistically significant mediating effect on the relationships among online social capital, offline social capital, social networks, and communication competence. Based on these results, implications for promoting the communication competence of generation MZ are suggested, including developing empathy-enhancement programs, fostering empathy and understanding the developmental context of generation MZ, and providing opportunities for the expansion of social capital.
