This study aims to examine the characteristics of family relationships among the baby boom and echo generations and analyze the longitudinal trajectory of family-relationship satisfaction. The data used in this study are obtained from the 12th to 24th waves (2009–2021) of the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study, which includes 1,836 baby boomers and 1,427 echo generation members. Descriptive statistics and frequency analyses are used to examine the family relationship characteristics, and a latent growth model is used to analyze the trajectory of family relationship satisfaction. The results suggest that the echo generation delays significant life transitions such as marriage and childbirth, whereas baby boomers experience the double burden of caring for their parents and children. Furthermore, based on the quadratic model of the trajectory of family relationship satisfaction, both the baby boom and echo generations show a trend of gradually increasing family relationship satisfaction over time. However, the rate of increase decelerates toward the end of the period. This study provides important insights into the characteristics of family relationships and longitudinal changes in family relationship satisfaction among these significant generations in Korean society, thereby offering a deeper understanding of family dynamics across generations.
