In response to the evolving educational landscape, this study explores the factors contributing to or hindering the success of academic presentations in remote and in-person environments. Through a qualitative analysis, the study examines the perspectives of graduate students and professors regarding the success factors and hindrances of presentations. The research addresses two key questions: What are the success factors and hindrances of remote presentations, and what are the success factors and hindrances of in-person presentations? Findings reveal that for both remote and in-person presentations, key success factors include a stable psychological state, positive audience reaction, and appropriate speech. Meanwhile, technology- related concerns and difficulties in audience communication are distinct to remote presentations, while communication with the audience is more frequently emphasized in in-person settings. Common hindrances across both settings include an unstable psychological state, lack of communication with the audience, and inappropriate speech, though specific concerns varied by presentation format. The study offers practical recommendations for presenters, such as thorough preparation, natural delivery, and enhancing audience interaction in academic presentations. This research contributes to the limited body of knowledge on remote presentations and provides insights for achieving successful presentations in both educational formats. Future research directions should include exploring different fields and experience levels to deepen our understanding of the dynamics of presentation success and hindrance.
