질적 연구와 질적 교육

Qualitative Research and Qualitative Education

연구와 교육은 개념상 혹은 활동상 구분할 필요가 있는 별개의 일이다. 하지만, 그 둘의 본질을 직관하면 서로가 밀접하게 연결되어 있고 상호보완적이라는 사실을 알 수 있다. 말하자면, 교육적 관심이 연구를 요청하고 연구를 통할 때 교육이 제대로 이루어진다. 그리고 연구를 통해 교육이 향상되고 교육을 통해 연구가 향상된다. 그러나 이러한 상생 및 상승 관계는 연구와 교육 모두가 ‘질적 접근으로’ 새롭게 이해되고 행해질 때 비로소 가능한 것이다. 이 논문은 질적 연구와 질적 교육의 성격을 분석하여 양자의 이론적 타당성을 높이는 동시에 실천적 전략을 모색하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 그와 함께 양자가 어떤 공통분모 속에서 상호보완적 관계를 형성할 수 있는지 검토하고 있다. 요점을 간추리자면, 질적 연구와 질적 교육은 공히 (1) 연구자-참여자, 교수자-학습자의 현상학적 실존과 해석학적 지평을 중시하며, (2) 연구자와 교수자의 매개(mediation) 역할을 주목하고, (3) 지식의 사회문화적 구성-해체 과정에 관심을 가지며, (4) 연구-참여, 교수-학습 사이의 불일치, 부정합, 부조화, 부조리, 모순, 갈등에 민감하게 대처하여 소외를 최소화하는 데 최선을 다한다. 그리고 질적 연구와 질적 교육의 상호보완적 결합은 진지하고 개방적인 ‘찾기(re-search)’를 통해서 형성되고 발전된다. Research and education are different conceptions and activities. Carefully analyzing each of them, however, we can find similiarity and relationship between them. Educational problem is an object to be researched, while research is a way of educating. The quality of education is improved through research practices. Also, the quality of research can be improved through the process of education. These mutual relations are typically identified in the qualitative approaches of education and research. By carefully analyzing the nature of qualitative research and qualitative education, we try to refine the theoretical validity and practical strategies of them. Findings are as follows: (1) qualitative research and qualitative education emphasize the participant's phenomenological existence and hermeneutic fusion of horizons; (2) they stress the mediator role of the teacher-researcher in mediating the knowledge of the world to the learner-subject; (3) they emphasize the process of construction, deconstruction, and reconstruction of text knowledge in sociocultural contexts; (4) they need to remove alienated situations where the participants are confronted with miscommunications, disharmonies, and conflicts. From these results, reciprocal interchange between qualitative research and qualitative education can be developed through the ‘re-search’(search, search and search) itself.
