성경 이야기의 재화가들은 이미 독자에게 익숙한 성경 이야기를 낯설게 하기 위하여 거리두기의 전략을 사용하여 성경을 재화한다. 성경 이야기 그림책의 경우 그림은 본문의 의미를 보완하고 확장하는 역할을 한다. 이 글은 성경 이야기의 재화의 정의와 성격, 그리고 재화의 방식과 그와 관련된 여러 가지 이슈를 다루고 있다. 첫째, 성경 재화는 성경 원래의 맥락과 얼마나 거리를 둘 수 있는가? 둘째, 성경의 성적인 표현과 폭력은 어린이 독자에게 어떻게 재화될 수 있는가? 셋째, 하나님은 성경 그림책에서 어떻게 그려질 수 있는가?

Writing Bible stories has the problem of too much familiarity to an audience. So it is the task of all retellers of biblical tales to erase familiarity, to create a meaningful distance so that the stories may be told with freshness and meaning. But, even as he or she de-familiarizes the tales, the reteller of a biblical tale must still tell the authentic tale, so that the story`s ethos are preserved. This article deals with the ways to retell the biblical tales and the issues related to retelling biblical tales. The issues raised in the retelling of biblical tales are as followings: How far may a biblical retelling move from its scriptural context?; How might sexuality and violence in content of biblical tales be retold to a child audience? Could God be depicted in a picture book retelling?
