레오 리오니의 그림책에 나타난 자아 정체성 연구

A Study on the Meaning of Self Identity in Leo Lionni's Picture Books

본 연구는 그림책 작가이며 일러스트레이터인 Leo Lionni의 그림책에 나타난 자아 정체성을 살펴보는 데에 그 목적을 두고, 구체적으로 L. 리오니의 생애와 작품세계 및 그의 그림책에 나타난 "나"와 "너"의 개념, 그리고 "우리"의 개념에 대하여 살펴보고자 한다. 연구대상은 L. 리오니의 그림책 중 글과 그림이 있는 10 편이다. 연구 결과, L. 리오니는 그의 그림책에 나 라는 개인의 주체적 관점에서, 또 다른 개인의 주체적 관점인 너라는 타인과의 연계 속에서, 그리고 자신의 정체성과 특성을 유지하며 타인과의 공동체적 관점을 수용하는 "우리"의 의미에서 정체성을 표현하고 있음이 확인되었다.

This study was to review the meanings of Self Identity in Leo Lionni's 10 picture books. First, Leo Lionni's life and the world(characteristics) of his works (picture books) were reviewed. Second it was recognized the notions of 'I' and 'you ' expressed in his works, as meanings of personal identity. And the notion of 'we' in communal perspectives in his stories was analyzed. Leo Lionni had written and illustrated 40 picture books for 40 years, and awarded several prizes including Caldecott Honor Book (4 times), German Children 's Book Prize, Bratislava Biennale Golden Apple, etc.. Children could form their Self Identities through reading Leo Lionni's picture books such as <Blue and Yellow>, <Frederick>, <Swimmy>, <Alexander and the Wind-Up Mouse>, etc. The meanings of self identities expressed in his works could be applied to early childhood education.
