A Study on Korean War in Children's Literature

본 연구의 목적은 어린이문학에 나타난 한국전쟁에 관한 인식을 재검토하는 데에 있다. 1950년 발발한 6.25 한국전쟁은 2003년 현재까지 한반도를 50년 간 휴전국의 상태로 남겨두고 있다. 50년이 지난 현재, 한반도에서는 북한의 핵무장과 전쟁 재발 가능성의 위험성이 날로 크게 부각되고 있다. 반면 북한이나 전쟁에 대한 일반 한국인들의 인식은 평화공존 나아가 평화통일이라는 무드에 머물고 있어, 그 문제에 관한 정치적 사회적 문제인식이 첨예하게 대립하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 어린이문학에 묘사된 한국전쟁의 실상과 그에 함축된 의미를 살펴보고자 하였다.

This study is to focus on Korean War described in Children`s literature, such as picture books for young children and story books for elementary children. Korean War had fired on Jun 25th, 1950, continued for 3 years, and finished on Jun 27th, 1953. But the war has not ended, the situation of a cease-fire has remained until now. Children`s literature, published from 2000 to 2003, describes tragedy of Korean War realistically. Combats between Army of Republic of Korea and Army of Democratic People`s Republic of Korea for 3 years, brutality and mass executions about political prisoners and civilians, and people's twisted lives including children's lives by war were expressed in picture books and described in story books. In conclusion, the writers, at first, should have their own philosophy about humanities and firm views about history and current social demands. Secondly, various aspects related to Korean War should be discovered as materials of children`s literature, and selected according to children's development and ability of understanding. Finally, children's literature about Korean War has to be considered as a part of literature for unification of two Koreas and should give pleasures to children as literature itself.
