Study on the Analysis Criteria of Picturebooks as Organisms

그림책은 글과 그림이 유기적으로 연결된 예술작품이기 때문에 그림책을 유기체라는 관점에서 그 특성을 분석하는 것은 올바른 그림책 평가를 위해 중요한 작업이다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 ‘글과 그림의 유기적 관계’와 ‘그림책의 내용과 그림의 예술적 요소와의 유기적 관계’라는 두 가지 측면에서 분석 기준을 제시하고, 이 기준에 따라 그림책을 분석해봄으로써 분석 기준의 타당성을 검토하였다. 글과 그림의 유기적 관계에 대한 분석을 위해서는 ‘이야기 진행을 위한 글과 그림의 관계’에 대한 분석 기준과 ‘독자의 참여에 영향을 미치는 글과 그림의 시점 표현’에 대한 분석 기준을 제시하였고, 그림책의 내용과 그림의 예술적 요소와의 유기적 관계 분석을 위해서는 그림책의 내용에 영향을 미치는 색, 선, 배열의 특성을 중심으로 분석하였다. 그리고 지금까지 국내외의 대부분의 연구가 외국 그림책을 대상으로 분석하였지만, 본 연구에서는 국내 창작 그림책도 분석 대상에 포함시킴으로써 분석 대상의 다양화를 시도하였다.

Since picturebooks are works of Art in which words and pictures are organically linked, it is important to evaluate them as organisms of words and pictures. To do so, I proposed two sets of picturebook analysis criteria based on the organic relationship between words and pictures and the organic relationship between contents and artistic elements. Then, a number of picturebooks were analyzed by the criteria. The analysis criterion based on the organic relationship between words and pictures is subdivided into two criteria groups, one based on the relationship between words and pictures for storytelling and the other based on the point-of-view of words and pictures affecting readers` participation. The organic relationship between contents and artistic elements was analysed in terms of colours, lines, and the arrangement of words and pictures that influence the content of a picturebook significantly. To diversify the analysis subject, several Korean picutrebooks, in addition to foreign picturebooks, were used.
